    COMPANY HISTORY

    Brandon May was founded in 2013 by two best friends, Sonya & Natalie, with a dream of bringing their own personal style to the hairdressing world, and to the people of Didsbury. The name Brandon May was in homage to Sonya’s Great Grandmother and Brandon is Natalie’s son. Our own little family – with all our fabulous guests included, too!

    Never ones to shy away from doing something new, they wanted to pass their knowledge onto the next generation, while getting results for their guests at Brandon May. Continually training and updating their skills, wanting to lead from the front, Brandon May managed to establish itself as one of Didsbury’s top salons.

    With Natalie going on to expand her family, she left the business to move to Spain and Sonya is now taking the reins. 2019 is the start of the ‘new’ Brandon May Hair.

    Always striving to do better, creativity and education is such a huge part of our ethos.

    Sonya

    Sonya – Owner

    Sonya, has over 15 years experience within the industry and started out her career as a hairdresser while training with Toni & Guy. A few years after qualifying, she decided to go back to college. This was to complete some training she needed in order to do a teaching qualification and that’s where her and previous co-owner Natalie met. This was the start of Brandon May…

    She completed that teaching qualification in 2013, as we feel training is an important part of the Brandon May philosophy. Sonya is constantly reading articles, books, websites and attending training as part of her CPD.

    She’s friendly and passionate about every client; she wants to make you feel special.

    Sonya covers all aspects of hairdressing…

    but loves blondes the most. Whether that’s more traditional highlights, a full head bleach or something more lived-in like balayage, the healthy blonde vibe is her thing. She also takes joy in doing bridal hair and helping spread the love on your special day. After doing some destination weddings in recent years, this is something that Sonya wishes to pursue further. Combining two of her loves: hairdressing and travel. She feels that by brides having the advantage of getting to know their stylist at home, before flying out to do their wedding this offers a truly personal and unique service.     Around hectic salon life, she busies herself with renovating her house (interior design novice alert!), taking pictures of her two cats, Prince and Pablo, as well as enjoying travelling, watching stupid animal videos and buying ankle boots.

    Rachel – Creative Director

    Rachel joined the Brandon May team in February 2019 and has been a hit with guests from day one.

    At 27, she’s had a brilliant career already and chose to take it to the next level to become part of our fabulous team. She has taken part in hair styling for London Fashion Week, with Brandon May, and she’s also been a session stylist. Rachel became one of the GHD Style Squad members after completing her presentation and photo shoot entry and then rigorous auditions a few years ago.

    She’d love to do a collection one day, which is something we’d love to nurture and loves styling hair. She’s great with guests and really gets to the heart of what you’re about during her amazing consultations.

    Rachel’s a Gemini and loves to spend time in her beloved Ibiza for every birthday and also loves the rugby (of course, she’s Welsh!).

    Hannah

    Hannah – Front of House & Socials

    Hannah joined Brandon May in 2018, as a stylist. She progressed through to a more senior level before having her daughter, Alora, in 2022. She’s now returned to the salon, changing her new role to suit her new family. She’s the friendly face who greets you on arrival, and is a helping hand to all. Welcome back, Han.

    You’ll see Hannah always changing her hair: whether it’s wearing extensions, her colour or donning a wig!

    Little facts about Hannah: She’s dog and wrestling obsessed. Not dog wrestling, though!

    Tasnim – Stylist & Technician

    Tasnim started her career at Toni & Guy before joining the Brandon May team to complete her level 2 – becoming qualified and gaining a distinction in her exams. She’s currently doing her level 3 to round her off even more as a stylist. Her passion is hair colour and she has a natural flair for picking the right techniques and colours to suit you. She’s our resident funny girl, an absolute shopping addict and would love to see more of the world – our curious travel gal. To book with her, you can call us during opening hours.

     Lois – Stylist and Technician

    Lois started with us while at school as a Saturday apprentice and, after a brief hiatus of her going to college, she came back to her true passion – hair. We welcomed her back with open arms and her hair work and determination (even through training remotely during covid) meant she’s already a fabulous hairdresser. A true perfectionist, she took on the Brandon May ethos straight away! She’s enjoying Ibiza again this year, as well as a festival abroad, and has a dog called Bronx – you’ll hear about him a lot. She’s building her clientele so if you’re looking for a stylist with fresh ideas, who’s super passionate, she’s your gal!
